Greek tax number (AFM) and Taxisnet (AADE) access from abroad

Last updated: 25 September 2026

Without a Greek tax number (AFM) you can do almost nothing in Greece: buy property, accept an inheritance or open a bank account. Without Taxisnet credentials you cannot see your tax records or authorise someone to act for you. We help you get both without travelling to Greece, wherever that is possible.

When you need a Greek tax number

  • to buy or inherit property,
  • to receive rent,
  • to open an account with a Greek bank,
  • for a pension or salary from Greece,
  • to hold shares in a Greek company or apply for a Golden Visa.

AFM and Taxisnet: two different things

The AFM is your Greek tax identification number and never changes. Taxisnet credentials are your username and password for the tax authority (myAADE) and gov.gr.

Many people who left years ago have an AFM but no credentials, or have forgotten them. Often the AFM still shows an old address in Greece: then your details and your tax residence need updating as well.

The remote options

  • Through an authorised person: you sign an authorisation with a certified signature, for example at the Greek consulate in your city or at a notary with an Apostille, and we handle the rest in Greece. We tell you in advance whether the original needs to be posted to us.
  • Through AADE’s digital procedures: in some cases there are procedures that do not require you to appear in person. We check whether they apply to you and guide you through each step.
  • If you already have an AFM and just lost your credentials: recovering them is usually simpler. We show you which route fits.

Once you have credentials, you authorise us online in myAADE and from then on everything happens online.

Tax representative

This is the person who represents you before the Greek tax authority while you live outside Greece. For residents of countries outside the EU and EEA it is generally mandatory; for EU residents it is optional but often convenient. We can take on this role.

What we will need from you

  • a valid passport or ID card,
  • proof of your address abroad, for example a utility bill or bank statement,
  • your tax identification number (TIN) in the country where you live, if you have one,
  • for residents outside the EU and EEA, the details of the tax representative.

If a document is not in Greek, it may need a translation. We tell you at the start, so no time is lost.

We will never ask for your Taxisnet password by email or message. We work through an authorisation in myAADE, which you can revoke at any time.

Start with the first step

Tell us whether you already have an AFM and which country you live in. We tell you which route fits, in a free first meeting.
